OLPC’s Founder Nicholas Negroponte

Nicholas Negroponte is the founder and creator of OLPC. OLPC is a non-profit organization seeking to help out the kids in other countries. In the video, Negroponte talks about the importance of technology and the impacts that it has made. Negroponte starts off by stating that OLPC is an educational project, not a labtop project. This non-profit organization started because Negroponte believes that all the problems in the world such as poverty and peace can all be solved by the help of education. A lot of children in the world don’t get any education at all. For example, in Afghanistan, 75% of girls don’t get any education and a lot of teachers over there have few qualifications. A lot of people start to drop out by the 3rd or 5th grade because they find school boring and irrelevant. It wouldn’t be a good idea to build more schools or train more teachers because it would just end up taking too much time. Therefore, Negroponte decided to start an organization by having partners like Quanta and making labtops to help educate the children in the third world countries for their benefit.

I think it was very smart of Negroponte to start this project because it can bring such a great huge impact on everyone. It definitely is going to impact the kids in the other countries but it is also going to impact the people who took part in this non-profit organization. This is because they are going to feel good about themselves and now that they did something great in their lives that will benefit others in many ways. I think that its really neat how they created this laptop so that it can resist water and stand up to a lot of damage. I believe that education is very important because it can take you anywhere you want to go and this project is going to give those kids hope. I am glad to know that their dreams will come true.
